CSM van Oppen was presented with a 'Young First Aider of the Year' award in London by broadcaster Martin Bell.

17-18 May 2008
LCpl Anderson attended a Junior Cadet Instructors' Cadre held at the WETC and passed, qualifying him to teach up to and including 1* subjects.

3-4, 10-11 May 2008
LCpl Anderson and CSM van Oppen fired in the London & Middlesex and the 4 Division Target Rifle Competitions. SSI Anderson was also present as a team coach. CSM van Oppen's team won the 'Best ACF Team' shield.

26-27 April 2008
Bordon cadets attended a company weekend on Bramshott Common. For the Recruits and 1*s it was run as a normal training weekend, while the 2 and 3*s took part in a fieldcraft/battle exercise.

The cadets enjoyed an evening at SEME Bordon. Activities included a ride in an armoured personnel carrier, driving a Challenger II simulator and looking around a tank hangar. Many thanks to Sgt Kilbride from the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers for all the work he has done for our unit over the last two years.

Cadet Sergeant Major van Oppen passed the Master Cadet course which was held at CTC Frimley. It has also just been announced that he will be presented with an award as a Young First Aider Of The Year.

The unit had its annual inspection by the OC of SEME Bordon and performed well. Congratulations to the cadets and adult staff who put a lot of effort into preparation for this event.

Bordon cadets attended an 'A' Company training weekend at Longmoor camp, taking part in Recruit, Signals, First Aid, Shooting and NCOs cadres. Particular well done to Cdt Meade for the award of best cadet on the recruits cadre.

SSgt van Oppen was presented his award for Lord Lieutenant's Cadet at an investiture ceremony in Portsmouth. Sgt Smith was present to formally hand over her tenure of the appointment.

Congratulations to Cdts Anderson, Colin, Elis and Paterson who represented Bordon in the Ed Hare Memorial Competition, which was run by 'A' Company on Aldershot Training Area. Well done also to Cdts Gregory and Paterson who completed their recruit training over the weekend, on a course taught in part by SSgt van Oppen. They were presented their badges and certificates by Major Farmer, the Company Commander.

The cadets returned to the unit this evening after their summer break, and this was the hand-over evening as a change of detachment commanders was introduced. SSI Steven handed over command of 6 Platoon to SI Anderson. We thank SSI Steven for all the time and effort he has put into the unit over the last 3 years. He will be missed.

The cadets have just returned from this year's week-long Annual Camp, where they enjoyed all activities on the cadet syllabus and work towards their Proficiency Awards. Activities included going on exercise and riding in helicopters. Congratulations to Bordon cadets who attained the following awards: Sgt Stead (promotion to SSgt), Sgt Smith (Gold Braid, BTEC), Cpl Flanagan (promotion to Sgt and 3*) and SSgt van Oppen (Lord Lieutenant's Cadet 2008).

SSgt van Oppen represented 6 Platoon on the ACF stand at the Aldershot Army Show. He will be shooting at the National Shooting Centre, Bisley for the coming 2 weeks.

This weekend Bordon entered the last ever 'A' Company 125 Competition, and won gold medals, narrowly beating Fleet and Aldershot detachments who came 2nd and 3rd respectively. The team members were: Sgts Stead (Captain), Smith, van Oppen, Cpl Flanagan, Cdts Colin, Avis-Wells, Granshaw, Fryer, Patterson and Capes. We also brought back trophies for Assault Course, Military Knowledge and Drill. Congratulations to all involved and many thanks to SSI Steven for his work with the team. Sgt van Oppen was promoted to Cadet Staff Sergeant.

This evening the unit had its annual inspection from the regular REME unit based in Bordon. The cadets enjoyed an evening in the field and all passed their basic fieldcraft.

There will be no cadet evenings from now on during the Christmas and New Year period. The first evening of next year will be held on Tuesday 9 January 2007 at the normal time of 1900-2130.

This evening the Bordon and Alton cadets enjoyed a games and pizza evening with a Christmas theme. Many thanks to Sgt Crome (PI) for her work in organising the event and to all the other instructors for the effort they have put in over the last year.

Well done to the following cadets who took part in the National Cadet 100 Shooting Competition at CTC Frimley: Sgt Stead, Cpl van Oppen, LCpl Flanagan, Cdt Richardson. Thanks also to Sgt Anderson (SI) for providing the transport. Results are due to be published in early January.

The 6 Platoon team performed extremely well in the 125 competition, which was held this year at Browndown Training Camp, Gosport. The team came 3rd place and also won trophies for first aid and skill at arms. Many thanks to SSgt Steven and Sgt Crome (PI) for their help with training.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Lieutenant Douglas for all the effort he has put into resurrecting the unit over the last two years. Lt Douglas has now moved on to take up the position of Training Officer ('A' Company), to be succeeded as detachment commander by Sgt Steven (SI).
We would also like to thank Sgt McVickers' team from SEME Bordon for our new sign!

16 - 17 and 23 - 24 September 2006
After the first weekend of practice, Cpls Smith and van Oppen were both selected to represent Hampshire & IOW ACF in this year's CADSAAM (Cadet Skill at Arms Meeting) which was held at Pirbright Ranges. Cpl Smith shot in the 'C' team and Cpl van Oppen in the 'D' team and both performed well. They will also be attending the CISSAAM (Cadet Inter-Services Skill at Arms Meeting), a National shooting competition to be held in October.

All the cadets who attended enjoyed their time on this year's Annual Camp which was held at Wretham, Norfolk. Activities included military exercises, shooting, climbing, abseiling and kayaking. Congratulations to Cpl Stead for his completion of 4 Star and promotion to Sergeant, and to Cpl Smith for completion of 3 Star.

Many thanks to the following cadets who helped run the Sport Relief event in Bordon: Cpl Stead, Cpl van Oppen, LCpl Flanagan, Cdt McLachan. The event ran smoothly thanks to the cadets and adults of the unit who issued water and lap counters to over 300 competitors.
